Assignment guidelines


  • The deadline for each assignment will be specified with each module.
  • Assignment should be uploaded to the Diploma website in PDF format before midnight (Sudan time) on the date specified for each assignment.
  • Please make sure your references are correctly cited as the assignment will go through a software program that detects plagiarism. You will be facing legal trouble and risk of being removed from the Diploma program.

  • If you have special circumstances regarding the submission; please email     Dr. Sara Lavinia 48 hours before the submission date, otherwise if no genuine excuse for the delay is found, 20% will be deducted from the total mark for the assignment and you will risk rejection of your assignment.


  • The assignment should range between 1500 - 3000 words in length
  • A4 format with easily-readable font
    • Times New Roman 12pt or
    • Arial 11pt
  • Spacing should be 1½ cm
  • Students should aim for a structure, style and authorial voice consistent with the medical research – i.e. imagine that your work will be published and read by other people in the medical research field
  • It should be appropriately referenced in Vancouver style
  • Any figures or tables should be clear and cited in the text
  • The header or footer of each page should include page numbers and your registration number
  • Include a cover page containing:
    • The title
    • Name of the module (e.g.: Introduction to research)
    • Date of submission
    • Word count
    • Registration number

Mark scheme

  • The common mark scheme for these assignments has been blueprinted on the intended learning outcomes for the Diploma in research methodology and ethics.
  • You have to demonstrate good understanding in the following six main domains, you should demonstrate:
  1. Acquisition of skills such as critical analysis of different material, reflection on your own work and the work of others as well as good educational development.
  1. Understanding and application of key concepts from course material.
  1. Understanding and use of good appropriate relevant literature.
  1. Insight and ability to apply concepts to own learning as well as applying ideas to your context.
  1. Understanding of other contexts and ideas from discussion forums.
  1. Good Structure, clarity and appropriate referencing of any material that you used in the writing of the assignment.
